FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE A Vue is a rock climbing term meaning, a clean ascent with no knowledge of the route. The narrative that unfolds follows Henry, a park ranger, who diligently restores a 150-foot monument to George Washington Carver in Diamond, Missouri, and a woman named Susan, who has recently transferred into town to work for a fiber optics company. As they discuss the relationship between their lives and work it becomes evident that a deep level of investment has confused their understanding of their own careers. The characterization of Carver's life and career has become part of a social, political, and agricultural folk history. His relentless focus on self-sufficiency and serious research led to many agricultural solutions, but was never broken by love. With this work, Mosley once again combines several forms of media including digitally photographed stop-motion puppets, a 24 inch bronze maquette and ink-wash painted environments. Mosley collaborated with composer Abby Schneider to create an original score for the video. Joshua Mosley is an Assistant Professor of Animation and Digital Media in the School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania and was the recipient of a 2003 Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Previously, Mosley has been included in two group exhibitions and one DYG Project. This marks the artist's first solo exhibition at the gallery. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 to 5:30 and Saturday, 11:00 to 5:30. If you would like more information, please contact Emily Letourneau or Lisa Williamson at 312.455.0100. |
